Winter OOM Rules

Best 10 results over the winter count with the winter season starting on the 30th October now that we are playing off mats.

Points for a comp awarded will be as follows (as per club order of merit) :

1st – 25 points, 2nd – 18, 3rd – 15, 4th – 12, 5th – 10, 6th – 8, 7th – 6, 8th – 4, 9th – 2, 10th – 1

As there is no publication of results on howdidido we will not be using countback to split players scoring equal stableford points, so winter league points will be shared. e.g 2 players both score a days best score of 38 pts. Each will be awarded (25+18)/2 = 21.5 pts.

The bandit headcover and trophy will be awarded to the winning playing, count back being used if required.

The Donkey headcover and trophy will be awarded to the player scoring the least points, countback will be used if required to ensure an award.

We can play a variety of pairs and team comps, but for all we keep individual stableford scores to allow for handicap adjustments. No matchplay comps will count towards the oom.

8 Ball Winter Rules

  • Mats can only be used on fairways and tee boxes, not in the rough, bunkers or penalty areas.
  • Lift, clean and place everywhere
  • Lift, rake and place in any bunker.
  • If the bunker is full of water, with no way to take relief, then a free drop may be taken out of the bunker (not nearer the hole). Similarly if the bunker is frozen free relief can be taken outside the bunker.
  • Once your ball lands, and stays, on a winter green (assuming its in play) you can either take a 2 putt and immediately pick up, or decide to putt out. Once you have decided to putt out you have to get the ball in the hole. This gives a chance to remove the vagaries of the flower pot holes and/or poor winter green surfaces, but does not apply to summer greens where balls must be putted out.
  • No gimmies under any circumstances

Handicaps

To ensure fair play across the winter we are introducing a handicapping system which reflects an individuals score on the day in relation to everyone else, and is then adjusted accordingly.

To do this we are going to introduce the ASS (Average Scratch Score), which will be calculated by finding the average stableford score across all of the players who play in the Wednesday competitions, this will then be used as the baseline by which to determine handicap reductions.

Anyone scoring 3 pts less then the ASS will receive a shot
Anyone scoring 5 pts less than the ASS will receive 2 shots
Anyone scoring 7 or more pts less than the ASS will receive 3 shots
Anyone scoring 3 pts more than the ASS will be deducted 1 shot
Anyone scoring 5 pts more than the ASS will be deducted 2 shots
Anyone scoring 7 pts more than the ASS will be deducted 3 shots
The bandit of the week, with the highest points scored, will be deducted a shot. If there is a points tie then each player will receive a 1 shot deduction
The donkey of the week, with the lowest points scored, will receive a shot deduction. If there is a points tie then each player will receive a 1 shot increase.
